Oslo Port of Call Sightseeing and Tourist Attractions

Oslo Waterfront Sightseeing Fun

Oslo, capital of Norway is a popular destination for Scandinavian cruises.  Passengers can enjoy the city’s unique atmosphere along with its world-class attractions. Situated at the end of the spectacular Oslo fjord and surrounded by wooded hills and small scenic islands, Oslo has Norway`s largest cruise harbor.

Cruise ships dock at a great location in the city centre, just below the ancient Akershus Fortress a must-visit for panoramic vistas of the Oslo fjord. Walk along the quay to go to Aker Brygge, a popular spot with lots of shops and restaurants. From the port you see the City Hall and the Nobel Peace Center. Ten minute ferry-boat rides take you to the peninsula of Bygdøy for some of the famous tourist attractions.

A multitude of museums and art galleries will have you admiring the most impressive of them all - Munch Museum having a huge collection of the Norwegian painter's work. Another outstanding attraction is the Viking Ship Museum with beautifully preserved wooden Viking ships. The stunning natural beauty along with sightseeing makes Oslo a great cruise destination.

If you do not want to spend time in museums, enjoy the city centre by simply walking around to soak up the atmosphere. In the summers especially Aker Brygge, the former dock now turned into a modern coastal promenade draws crowds to its shops, restaurants and bars. Shoppers can look for tiny unusual shops hidden between larger stores for local souvenir hunting.
