The western Caribbean cruise route remains most popular with palm fringed beaches, white sands and the blue waters attracting numerous passengers all the time. Itineraries may vary but usually have longer days at sea at each end of the cruise. Ports of call include Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Cozumel on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
The classic Western Caribbean itinerary includes Belize and Roatan in Honduras. A halt at the Bahamas by some cruise line’s take you to ‘private islands’ to beach areas reserved exclusively for wide ranging water sports or simply the chance to relax. Most major cruise lines have their ‘private islands.’
Western Caribbean cruises offer more variety of ports of call than other cruises as the waters in this region are typically more tranquil. Operating all year round because of the temperate climate, the busiest months fall between April and October. There is also the option for a more laid back pace for cruising in the off-season. With reduced prices for excursions during off-season, amenities may be reduced. But you may enjoy local celebrations throughout the year. Enjoy festivals or cultural holidays from January to June depending on the country.
Hurricane season runs from June to November and the storms can alter itineraries and disrupt vacations and so planning a vacation cruise outside the hurricane season is best. Islands in western Caribbean are numerous and close together so cruise lengths vary. Four day cruise vacations typically visit one or two destinations while seven to ten-day voyages call on several different nations.
