| Exuma in the District of The Bahamas comprises of nearly 360 islands or cays. The largest of them is Great Exuma, 37 miles in length and linked to Little Exuma, another island by a small bridge. The capital and largest city in the district is George Town located on Great Exuma. The island continues living in idyllic simplicity with its charming unpretentious atmosphere. In Exuma life runs as it did decades ago. Mother Nature reigns supreme and for the most part the only sounds you hear are bird calls and the gentle lapping of sea-waters. The natural attractions of Exuma can be contagious having you reveling glorious sunsets and star gazing at night. A day in Exuma can be spent doing nothing but existing! Many unnamed beaches and coves and extensive offshore reef areas belong to Exuma National Land and Sea Park of the Bahamas National Trust. In George Town you may take walking tours to visit the central straw market for authentic Bahamian crafts. Visit the old St. Andrews Anglican Church. Stroll around Lake Victoria to browse the shops, restaurants and grocery stores encircling the lake. The Exuma islands are a popular spot for yachting, sailing, diving, and coral reef and cave exploring. |
