| Cat Island in the Bahamas is located in the central district with the Nation's highest point Mount Alvernia rising up to 206 feet. It is topped by The Hermitage monastery. Cat Island is 48 miles long and averages between one and four miles in width. This boot-shaped mysteriously romantic island is quite untamed. As one of the most beautiful of the islands in the Bahamas, much of the indigenous music, culture and myths emerged in this region. It is the ideal place to travel to if you are looking for some quietitude and seclusion. Miles and miles of rolling hills and bare beaches, especially the eight-mile Pink Sand Beach offer relaxed vacations. Cat Island Blue Holes are geological anomalies that are deep limestone craters full of beautiful blue water. The holes are part of an underwater cave system, linking freshwater lakes with the ocean and there are innumerable legends and folklore that locals will tell you about.
