| Belize City is a primary port of call for most cruise lines out of Galveston. 20 minute boat rides take you ashore to the Tourism Village offering comfortable and colorful entertainment. Most visits are pre-arranged for refreshment opportunities and shopping options in the restaurants, snack shops, handicraft stores and duty-free shops. Cruise ship days play Belizean cultural music and offer customized tours of the city. Tourists can disembark for snorkeling and diving tours directly from anchored cruise ships. Treks or rides to the rainforest Mayan ruins of Altun Ha and Lamanai are also organized. You may enjoy canoe, kayak or tubing in the rivers and caves or visit nationals parks and wildlife protected areas. Nature walks and birding are particularly enjoyable. Best of all is the world-famous Barrier Reef of Belize that can be readily accessed for several pleasant hours of snorkeling, fishing, diving, windsurfing or just swimming in the crystal clear Caribbean waters. Frequently visited offshore islands called cayes include Goff's Caye, Caye Caulker, San Pedro, Laughing Bird Caye, Coco Plum Caye, Tobacco Caye and Man-o-War Caye. The Great Blue Hole is a most exciting spot in Belize near Ambergris Caye. Rated one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world, it is great for recreational scuba divers to see several species of fish, including giant groupers, nurse sharks and several types of reef sharks. Usually, dive trips to the Great Blue Hole are full-day trips that include one dive in the Blue Hole along with dives in nearby reefs.
