| Amsterdam the largest city and capital of the Netherlands is located in North Holland province. It is a great stopover destination point for a European cruise trip that is either a starting or finishing point of a cruise. The port of call attracts 100,000 ocean cruise visitors per season with the terminal remaining busy in season to host some 100 ships from spring to fall. The brand-new Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is an attraction in itself for cruise ships. The Passenger Terminal at the center of the Oostelijke Handelskade is an impressive building made largely of glass and shaped like a whale. The large reception hall on the first floor is where cruise passengers arrive and depart. It offers a beautiful view of the city and the IJ River. The terminal is a 10-minute walk or a five-minute ride from Central Station, where all of the city's bus, trolley and boat lines can be boarded. The city is a dynamic and cosmopolitan with a friendly atmosphere that provides a magical mix of art, entertainment, nightlife and restaurants. Famous for its canals, ice skating, tulips, windmills, wooden shoes the city of Amsterdam is a paradise for visitors.
